Words of Praise from our Attendees

Impacted me by reaffirming that I do have the right to become a PhD student even though the road leading to it was unconventional.

This conference today has really inspired me and has unlocked another level in me. I am already a motivated person but now I feel I have the awareness to stay focused and claim my space within my role. My strategies to reach my goals are more clear and my voice feels stronger.

Boosted my confidence. Made me aware of the biases I could be a victim of. Help me navigate better in academia.

As I have always experienced with the previous conferences, I felt empowered, I felt encouraged to continue my research, I felt important to contribute to academia as a BME ECR, I gained new ideas to continue building on my own research, I felt the power of a strong network and felt the comfort of just being me as a BME academic.

Very impactful… I feel I have some resolute strategies on how to navigate unusual and unfamiliar spaces. In addition, I know I’m not alone in the struggle in academia as a number of delegates are faced with similar circumstances and some worse than the others.

Knowing that others are being faced with similar challenges has reminded me that I am not alone in this.

it gave me a way forward to have a mentor and be a future mentor. Boosted my confidence to be in academia and survive the politics of the field.

Reconfirmed some important issues of concern facing researchers, and shed new light on entrenched structural racism and other forms of discrimination impacting on Black, Minority Ethnic researchers, practitioners, and within the wider society.

i have been able to meet and network with other people who have a backround like mine.

Learnt about existing networks e.g Black Women in Science that i can promote to my wider university.

It was beyound powerful seeing people who look like me in the same space working in academia. Its’s been so isolating in a way no one can ever understand unless you’re from that particular backround, so it wass validaing to have people who understood identified and i could confide in.

I felt really motivated and encouraged seeing people that looked like me, excelling and breaking the barriers.
