The Ethos and the Environment
The underrepresentation of Black and Minority Ethnic staff in academia is noticeable as the student body is not reflected in the staff teaching them. Disparities in outcomes occur across the academic journey as observed in degree-awarding gaps for BME students and the underrepresentation of BME academics in senior roles. For example, currently, there are now over 100 Black female professors.
